Judgement
“It’s a new day, but it all feels old
It’s a good life, that’s what I’m told
But everything, it all just feels the same
At my high school, it felt more to me
Like a jail cell, a penitentiary
My time spent there, it only made me see
That I don’t ever wanna be like you
I don’t wanna do the things you do
I’m never gonna hear the words you say
And I don’t ever wanna, I don’t ever wanna
Be you
Don’t wanna be just like you
Oh, what I’m sayin’ is this is the anthem
Throw all your hands up
You…Don’t wanna be you
Go to college, a university
Get a real job
That’s what they said to me
But I could never live the way they want
I’m gonna get by, and just do my time
Out of step while, they all get in line
I’m just a minor threat so pay no mind
Do you really wanna be like them
Do you wanna be another trend?
Do you wanna be part of that crowd?
‘Cause I don’t ever wanna, I don’t ever wanna
Be you
Don’t wanna be just like you
Oh, what I’m sayin’ is this is the anthem
Throw all your hands up
You…Don’t wanna be you
You…Don’t wanna be just like you
What I’m sayin’ is this is the anthem
Throw all your hands up
Y’all got to feel me, sing if you’re with me,
You…Don’t wanna be just like you (just like you)
This is the anthem throw all your hands up
Y’all got to feel me, sing if you’re with me
Another loser anthem (whoa-oh)
Another loser anthem (whoa-oh)
Another loser anthem (whoa-oh)
Another loser anthem”
-”The Anthem”, Good Charlotte
Anyways, why do people feel the need to judge other people? I mean, we’re all different, yes, but regardless, just become others are not used to certain people, they judge and degrade for no good reason. They label a person without getting to know them. They decide whether they like them or hate them without even talking to them. And if they fit into a certain stereotype…auto-hate.
In 15 seconds, we decide whether we like people or hate them based off of the first impressions they give…and those judgements last for life. So basically in a quarter of a minute we’ve decided our attitude towards someone forever. That’s a little hasty…
Seriously…sure, certain people may be annoying…and yes, you can despise their qualities, but for crying out loud, just try to get to know them before deciding you hate them.
Really. You don’t know a person: their backgrounds, their histories, their traumas, their experiences. You don’t know the hardships they’ve faced in life. You don’t know the obstacles they’ve overcome. You don’t know what they survived and lived through. There’s a reason why they’re the way they are, so don’t hate anyone, because it might not be their fault that they’re an ass…well, yes, they made the choice to be an ass in a particular situation, but perhaps they’re the way they are for some reason that’s out of their control…
I face the stereotypes a lot, and I get some looks from the jocks and preppies, but you know what? I don’t care. No, it’s not the emo apathy. I really don’t care. You laugh because I’m different. I laugh because you’re all the same.
I like being different. It seperates me from the rest, from the clones and the nobodies, the copy-cats and the imitators. The reason why? Because…as I’ve said before, I’m comfortable with myself, and that’s all I care about. I like who I am. I’m proud of who I am, and the things I do. And besides, I know I’m better than them, because I at least gave them the benefit of the doubt.
I’m different. And I’m fine with being different. Because in the long run, it’s better to stick out than to be another trend. Take “The Anthem” above…and live it. And always remember Dekkun’s motto…”You laugh because I’m different. I laugh because you’re all the same.”
