Dekkun’s Top 10 Song List, Edition 1
Konbanwa. Here’s a new feature. A top ten song list. I’ll post my top 10 favorite songs at the moment, and when I learn new songs and favor new songs, I’ll alter the list…but I won’t repeat why I love it. You can research that from past lists. And if you want to know the lyrics, go to letssingit.com. So let’s start at #10….
#10: If You Can’t Let it Be, Might as Well Make it Bleed
Dashboard Confessionals
Catchy, upbeat, and vengeful. That song stuck in my mind…I was actually singing it during computers last semester. It’s just vengeful and catchy…MOVE ALONG!
#9 Hello / Even in Death
Evanescence
These songs, I’ve decided, have been combined? Why? They’re both about the death of a loved one, and they’re both beautifully written. The pure dramatic sound of the piano in Hello just drains away your soul, getting you to the point where you’re standing right beside the young Amy Lee as she was told the tragic news of her young sister’s death. The slow tempo and the masterful playing of the ivory create an atmosphere that brings you to that unwanted feeling. Even in Death sings of the death of a close loved significant other. The error dial tone, the song’s creepy beat, and the well-written lyrics paint the perfect image of the heartbroken Amy Lee passing through the graveyard of her deceased loved one. “Even in death, our love goes on / And I can’t love you, any more than I do.”
#8 Grey Matter
Finch
A sort of blend of heavy metal screamo and rock, Grey Matter is the song that makes me headbang wildly when I’m supposed to be doing my Chemistry. It tells of a person destroying themselves slowly, faking happiness to fool everyone around them, while the shattered remains of their life remain around them. Perfect. “Are you happy? / I’ll decide / The stories are so old / How they match your eyes.”
#7 Teenagers
My Chemical Romance
Teenagers are horrible. They’re violent, resilient, and don’t listen to authority. They like drugs, and think the rents want to brainwash them into society. Mhh-hmm…well, this song parodies the stereotypes of teenagers, mixing it with a rock sound. Well, as the song says, teenagers are heartless and wear darkened clothes. They scare the living shit outta me! ^_^
#6 Ohio is For Lovers
Hawthorne Heights
Ah, I love this song. you’re away from the one you love, and you can’t stop thinking of her. She’s miles away, and you’re stuck on the tour bus dreaming of her…awww…you miss her. And it’s silently killing you on the inside as you’re far apart. Look up this song. I recommend it.
#5 Basket Case
Green Day
A song about going crazy and insane, and getting more and more paranoid by the minute. Nuff said! ^_^
#4 Over and Out
The Superjesus
This song is about being there for your friends when you need each other, in the good times and bad. Even the lyrics say, “If I were to die / Would you promise to be there / Would you say those words to comfort me / They’re all around, I swear.”
#3 Dissolve and Decay / Life on Standby
Hawthorne Heights
These songs are basically the same : deliciously depressing.
#2 Lithium
Evanescence
This song is fucking gothic rock ‘n’ roll inner conflict battle of the ages. Amy Lee is sad, and her sorrow has been a part of her life for amost all eternity. And now, when presented with the possibility of happiness, she wonders if she wants to let go of her sadness, because she feels its a part of her now. “Lithium, I want to stay in love with my sorrow / But God, I want to let it go.”
AND THE NUMBER ONE SONG!
#1 Second Sun
The Superjesus
A nice slow song with a beautiful theme. Stick to what you believe, and stand together, even if it gives you temorary happiness…wait for the sign to change your life for the better. The whole song is emphasised in my opinion by these lines, “Now you’ll hide in the alleyway / Safe from the longest days / We’ll take on all you say / Temporary Happiness / I never thought I’d be / The friend you had in me.”
